The Witcher 3 Remastered patch 5.01 launched on October 8, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. CD PROJEKT RED's update adds console graphics options, adjusts the presentation, and addresses gameplay and technical problems. A separate Nintendo Switch 2 update is in development.

Witcher 3 patch 5.01 console graphics settings

Console players can now toggle Bloom, Light Shafts, and Depth of Field. PS5 settings resets, console voiceover volume problems, and incorrect frame-rate limits on the base PS5 also receive fixes. The official 5.01 patch notes additionally list adjustments to tone mapping, character lighting, ray tracing, and PC path tracing.

More control over the image is a useful addition in its own right. A visual effect does not have to appeal to every player to belong in a remaster; giving players a switch is a better answer than making everyone live with the same presentation.

These changes follow the larger Remastered rendering overhaul, which introduced revised tone mapping for colors and contrast, updated textures and models, and changes to foliage lighting. For a useful comparison, revisit the same location under similar conditions rather than judging two screenshots with different weather or times of day.

The Witcher 3 Remastered blade oils fix and gameplay changes

Automatically Apply Blade Oils no longer requires enabling it during each session. Other fixes address delayed dodging and missing My Rewards or Twitch/Bilibili Drops in the Vizima chest; some reward items may duplicate after the correction.

The oil change repairs the automatic-application feature. It should not be read as an announcement that all oil effects now last forever. If that option was unreliable for you, restarting the game before trying it again is a useful way to check the specific behavior the patch addresses.

These are less glamorous improvements than new lighting, but they deserve attention. A setting that behaves consistently and a dodge that responds as intended affect ordinary play far more frequently than a carefully staged comparison shot.

Witcher 3 patch 5.01 PC fixes

On PC, fixes cover GTAO settings persistence and incorrect GPU selection. Dynamic Resolution Scaling now defaults to off.

Check your graphics configuration before comparing performance with an earlier session. Keep the same resolution, upscaling mode, and ray-tracing settings, then repeat a familiar route. Changing several options at once makes it harder to tell what the patch itself improved.

Our earlier coverage of Witcher 3 Remastered's RTX 5080 performance concerns launch-era testing. Those results provide background to the performance discussion, but they are not measurements of patch 5.01.

The Remastered update timeline

Remastered arrived on September 29, 2026. The launch announcement confirmed a free upgrade and included Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Eligible owners upgrade within the same platform ecosystem, rather than receiving a copy on every platform.

The earlier 5.00b update adjusted lighting, including overly dark interiors, and restored DLSS availability in the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version. Hotfix 5.00c addressed PC save/load failures involving special characters in the Documents path and reversed a HairWorks change that caused problems for some users.

What players should do now

Install the latest update through your existing console or PC library, then revisit the issue that affected you. On PS5, Sony's update instructions are to highlight the game, press Options, and select Check for Update.

For returning players, the useful question is whether the update removes the problem that interrupted their campaign. For screenshot enthusiasts, it is whether the new presentation and console options suit their preferences. Neither answer requires starting the adventure over simply to evaluate a patch.

The Witcher 3 Remastered Switch 2 update and remaining questions

CD PROJEKT RED is targeting closer parity, including global changes, plus better Switch 2 image clarity and sharpness. It has promised more information in the following days, not a release date.

There are also no standardized before-and-after FPS results or download sizes in the 5.01 announcement. Console optimization claims should therefore be treated as changes to investigate, rather than a guaranteed frame-rate increase. Check your platform's download screen for the actual package size.

FAQ

Is The Witcher 3 Remastered a free upgrade?

Yes, eligible existing owners receive the Remastered upgrade for free within the same platform ecosystem. You do not need to buy the game again simply to install its updates.

Does patch 5.01 make blade oils permanent?

No. The documented fix concerns automatic application across sessions, not unlimited oil duration.

Will my existing Witcher 3 saves still work with Remastered?

CD PROJEKT RED's official game FAQ says existing saves remain compatible and cross-progression continues to function. Save compatibility does not mean every platform has identical graphics options.

Can I start Blood and Wine without replaying the base game?

Yes. The official FAQ confirms that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine can still be started separately through the main menu. Both expansions are included with the Remastered update.
