Ghost of Yotei New Game Plus unlocks after you finish the main story, letting you restart Atsu's campaign with your earned equipment and abilities. The mode is available on PS5, including PS5 Pro, through a free update. You do not need the paid Complete Edition Upgrade to access it.

This guide covers the unlock steps, what carries over, the extra rewards, and the save checks worth making before starting again. It also separates a full campaign restart from encounter replays, which may be the better option if you only want another duel.

Sucker Punch introduced the mode in its official New Game Plus announcement. That patch number identifies the feature's introduction; install the current update rather than looking for that older version.

How to start Ghost of Yotei New Game Plus

  1. Finish the main story. This is the published unlock condition; completing every optional activity is not listed as a requirement.
  2. Check for updates. On the PS5 home screen, highlight Ghost of Yotei, press the controller's Options button, and select Check for Update. Install anything available.
  3. Keep your completed campaign save. Before restarting, check that the finished playthrough and the equipment you want to retain are present. Avoid deleting saves during setup.
  4. Return to the title screen and select New Game+. Follow the game's prompts to begin the replay. Choose this option rather than an ordinary New Game.

PlayStation confirms the title-screen unlock on its official game page. The console update steps come from PlayStation Support.

What carries over in Ghost of Yotei New Game Plus?

ProgressionCarryover
Weapons and armorYour earned equipment remains available.
AbilitiesAbilities acquired in your first playthrough are available again.
Existing upgradesRetained, with further armor and weapon upgrades available in NG+.
CosmeticsRetained.
ResourcesRetained.
CollectiblesRetained.
Main campaignReplayed instead of remaining at its completed state.

PlayStation explicitly lists gear, upgrades, cosmetics, resources, and collectibles as retained. Sucker Punch's original announcement also confirms abilities. Your character progression carries forward; the campaign is the part you replay.

The official overview does not itemize every map marker or fast-travel flag. Do not read the broad carryover promise as confirmation that every location remains immediately accessible.

Ghost Flowers and the new rewards

Ghost Flowers reward completing objectives you already finished in the original playthrough. Spend them with the NG+ vendor on cosmetics, charms, and two new upgradeable armor sets.

The original update announcement specified more than 30 new cosmetics and 10 new charms, alongside another upgrade tier for existing weapons and armor. Those are the rewards announced for the original NG+ update, rather than a count of every item added by later paid content.

For a useful replay goal, check the vendor's stock and pick something you actually want before chasing every reward. A focused upgrade or equipment target gives the second run a purpose beyond clearing the same checklist again.

New Game Plus trophies and difficulty

The NG+ update introduced two additional trophies and harder difficulty options. Check their individual requirements in the PS5 trophy list before planning a completion run; do not assume finishing the story alone fulfills every new objective.

Our recommendation is to choose a difficulty that encourages a different approach to combat. If you have no interest in replaying the campaign, collecting two extra trophies may be a weak reason to commit to another full run.

Encounter replays: an alternative to restarting

Completed challenge missions and duels can be replayed through the map. In NG+, an encounter becomes replayable after you complete it once in that run. The official game page explains these replay conditions.

The original update also brought a postgame stats display for replayed content. If your goal is practicing a particular fight, check the replay options in your completed campaign first. You can make a more informed decision about restarting after seeing whether those encounters satisfy what you want.

Before restarting: saves and settings

Make three decisions first: which completed save you want to preserve, what you want from the replay, and which settings you want to change. Taking a screenshot of your current equipment is also a simple reference if you later want to compare builds.

Check your PS5 cloud save

PlayStation Plus members can upload saved data to cloud storage. From the console home screen, highlight the game, press Options, and choose Upload/Download Saved Data. Alternatively, open Settings, then Saved Data and Game/App Settings, select Saved Data (PS5), and use the upload controls.

To check synchronization, select Sync Saved Data and View Sync Status. Sony explains these options in its PS5 cloud storage guide.

Automatic synchronization keeps the newest data; it is not a permanent archive of a particular campaign state. A cloud copy should complement keeping the completed save within the game, rather than substitute for it.

PS5 game saves also cannot be copied individually to a USB drive using the PS4 save-copy procedure. Sony's storage guide distinguishes those formats.

Revisit the convenience options

Patch 1.100 added automatic looting of defeated enemies, an option to skip Sumi-e minigames, extra control choices, and an additional loadout slot. It also added a fall-damage toggle, although some falls remain lethal. These features are documented in Sucker Punch's patch notes.

Review the options that affect tasks you found repetitive. A second run is a good time to adjust convenience settings without changing your entire combat plan.

New Game Plus missing? Check these first

  1. Confirm story completion. Load the playthrough you believe is finished and check its status.
  2. Install outstanding updates. If the download fails, test the console's internet connection and restart the PS5 before trying again.
  3. Check that you still have the completed save. If you recently changed consoles, inspect your local and cloud saved data.
  4. Report a persistent issue. Describe your game version and save situation to Sucker Punch Support.

Updating matters beyond adding the mode. Patch 1.101 fixed NG+ vendor bugs, an incorrect bamboo-strike counter, and a rare platinum armor-dye issue across separate saves. Those documented fixes do not establish the cause of every missing-menu problem.

Free NG+ versus the Complete Edition Upgrade

ContentAccess
Original New Game Plus modeFree update for owners.
Echoes of Sekigahara and Most WantedIncluded in Complete Edition or its paid upgrade.
Complete Edition Upgrade$14.99 USD announced price for existing owners.
Complete Edition$69.99 USD on PlayStation's US game page as of October 8, 2026.

The Complete Edition announcement distinguishes the expansion and survival mode from free updates. It also lists additional NG+ cosmetics in the paid package. Those extras do not make the original replay mode a paid feature.

The October 2026 free update added the option to keep one armor set's appearance while using another's stats. Sucker Punch confirmed this remains available without buying the upgrade in its September update overview. That is a useful setting to check before rebuilding your loadout.
